Many people have carried acne scars for decades never thinking that it is something that they could alter or improve. Acne scars are equal opportunity offenders, they affect men and women, young and old. Yet today there are more options available then ever before, and the treatment options continue to improve in efficacy. When I first entered this field over 10 years ago, this was one of the most resistant problems. Only the most invasive of techniques were available. Today, there is such a broad range of options, that the ideal treatment, can really be individualized to the patient, the type of acne scarring, how extensive it is, and whether they want less downtime, or can tolerate more downtime.
What one can expect is a complete history, and assessment, along with learning fully your concerns, followed by individualized recommendations, and an opportunity to schedule the beginning of a series of treatments. Most to all treatment modalities would require more than one session. You would receive a full explanation of the process, opportunity to ask all of your questions, and have any and all of your concerns addressed. A topical cream is used to anesthetize the skin so that you are comfortable throughout the treatment. Upon completion, you will be provided with post-treatment instructions.
