Platelet Rich Plasma PRP in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan

The most popular skin rejuvenation and hair restoration treatment right now…

Over five years ago, elite athletes and sports stars were using autologous platelet-rich plasma to speed up recovery from injuries. Now, it has attracted attention in various medical fields including dermatology, dental and plastic surgeries for its wound healing ability. So it’s no surprise to see it used in skin and hair restoration. In the past we have used products that make no sense at all to turn back the hands of time (bull semen night cream anyone?), so why not use PRP?

First the scientific part –

Although blood is mainly a liquid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (red cells, white cells, and platelets.) The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries.

PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual.

prp-hairTo get that concentration, small amount of blood is taken and then processed in a centrifuge. This concentrated portion is then removed and either injected or applied directly to the skin or scalp where it is most commonly driven in by microneedling.

That all sounds good, but does it work?

prp-skin-3Not only does it work, but it is currently the most requested anti-aging and hair restoration procedure in Europe and the US.

For skin rejuvenation – patients typically notice an immediate glow, but visible improvement will take about 2-4 weeks and can continue for up to 6 months.

prp-skin-2A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is ideal for optimal results. Some conditions like deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, and acne scars may need 6-8 treatments.

For hair loss, results can be seen in approximately 2 months. The amount of treatments is based on each individuals needs.

There’s no guarantee of specific results and the results can vary.
